Down to earth

As Coluche said

“The right length for your legs is when your feet touch the ground! In a world where truth and lies are no longer so easily distinguished, what a joy it is to live among the vines. These unchanging, historic vines, which each year, whatever the political and economic ups and downs, are reborn, live, and even oblige us. The world of agriculture seems increasingly misunderstood. Are we becoming rare birds?

An alignment of planets

With this former church of Corcelles where we’ve had our cellars since 2021, it’s an alignment of planets. In autumn, as the sun rises, we can often admire Mont Blanc, 200 km to the east, imposing and majestic, reminding us that the world is not so big. As I stand on tiptoe, memories come flooding back, I imagine a winegrower friend of mine in his vineyard in Georgia, I imagine the scents of Asia, dark boats sailing up the river along the “Bond” in Shanghai – okay, maybe I’ve had too much white Beaujolais this morning! – and at the same time, on the opposite side of the entrance window, due west, 5 km from here, my gaze stops here on the Côte du Py in Morgon, where I was born. A mamelon, admittedly only 350 m high, but what a mamelon! the Coeur de Morgon. Surrounded by granite, it’s solid!

Wine is not a problem, it’s a solution

The world of wine in general is in trouble, with some claiming that it is not vital to everyday life, and others, believing themselves better informed, that it is responsible for many ills… No, the truth is resurfacing! Following the meeting of heads of state at the UN in New York last September, and the interventions of various associations in defense of wine, the WHO – World Health Organization – said in its official final communiqué that wine is not a problem, but a solution, within the limits of responsibility and moderation! Could this be the start of a new benevolent outlook?

The 2025 harvest

When we were kids, after a good fall on our bikes, we’d get up, knees a bit skinned, offended but proud, and say “not bad at all”. It’ll be the same with this 2025 mini harvest. Great quality, but few small grapes, little juice. With this very small harvest adding to the general worries, we’re going to have to show our resilience once again. It’s not the first time, we know how to do it, but we mustn’t overdo it!

Resilience - Vintage 2025

Don’t try to adapt, stay adaptable

To prepare for 2026, we’re going to have to cobble things together, simplify, cut costs, etc., without wanting to put everything back on the line. Data is changing fast, so rather than looking for new directions with too many unknowns, it’s better to remain adaptable. For us winegrowers, it comes down to continuing to nurture our nature, making fine wines, and above all, making them known and discoverable… In the end, the solution has always been the same, and that’s rather reassuring, is about people, meeting and sharing… In our next message, we’ll let you know about our current projects.

… and since wine is a solution, you can go online directly online!

Thanks for reading all the way through!

Kind regards
