(September 2022) A great harvest

« In Morgon, Chénas and Régnié, in all our vineyards, the harvest was wonderful.

Gamay has once again shown its ability to overcome the drought.

The good management of the soils, the care of the vines, the orientation of the plots, all these details were decisive during this atypical year because of its earliness.

And then, the age of the vines too! None of the old vines has been affected by drought. This does not help the modernisation cause! It takes so many years and so much patience to get the plant to root deeply and to be protected from climatic variations… The oldest of our vines was planted in the spring of 1917. The harvest was fantastic.

What a relief now that the wine vats are full!

Some grapes are already pressed, others are still fermenting. They are slowly simmering, almost silently this year. In our new winery, the former church of Saint Pierre of Corcelles, the silence of the fermentation is almost religious!

This year, the vines had to reach deep into the rock to find their food. Therefore, the 2022 wines will express their terroir and appellation differences very strongly. They will be true carbon copies of the soil.

We already know that our 2022 Crus will be suave and round, with beautiful colours, soft tannins, well-ripened black fruits, such as cherries and blackberries, often with a little acid note, crunchy, in the style of the blueberry of our bushes and blueberries – this kind of large blueberry found in Quebec – but also nuances of quetsche, this Alsatian variety of plum.

Subtle perfumes, voluptuous and long mouths, that is how the 2022 will look like. True Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée wines from a fine vintage.
